    Let \(X\) be a Banach space and \((x_{n})_{n \geq 0}\) be a sequence in \(X\). The paper under review studies the following problem: Under which condition on \(\|x_{n}\|\) is the set \(\{x_{n}: n \geq 0 \}\) weakly-closed? First, inspired by a result of \textit{S.\,Shkarin} [``Non-sequential weak supercyclicity and hypercyclicity'', J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 242, No.\,1, 37--77 (2007; Zbl 1114.47007)], the author introduces the following definition. The weak-closure exponent \(w(X)\) of a Banach space \(X\) is defined by \[ \text{sup} \{ a>0: \;\forall (x_{n})_{n \geq 0} \in X \text{ with } \sum_{n} \|x_{n}\|^{-a} < \infty, \;\text{then} \;\{x_{n}: n \geq 0 \} \;\;\text{is weakly closed}\}. \] Then, he computes the value of \(w(X)\) for a large class of Banach spaces. Indeed, let \(p(X)= \text{sup} \{p: X \;\text{has type }p \}\); the main theorem states that if \(X\) is a Banach space with \(p(X)>1\), then \(w(X)=p(X^{*})\). A related problem is that of the polarization constant of a Banach space. \textit{R.\,A.\thinspace Ryan} and \textit{B.\,Turett} [``Geometry of spaces of polynomials'', J.~Math.\ Anal.\ Appl.\ 221, No.\,2, 698--711 (1998; Zbl 0912.46039)] proved that for any Banach space \(X\) and any \(n \geq 1\), there exists a constant \(C_{n}\) such that, for any \(f_{1},\dots, f_{n} \in X^{*}\), one has \(\|f_{1}\|\dots \|f_{n}\| \leq C_{n} \| f_{1}\dots f_{n}\|.\) The smallest constant \(C\) in the previous inequality is called the \textit{polarization constant } of \(X\) and is denoted by \(c_{n}(X)\). Motivated by some results on \(c_{n}(X)\), the author also introduces the following definition. The exponent of polarization of a Banach space \(X\) is defined by \[ e(X)= \limsup_{n \to \infty} \frac{\text{log}(c_{n}(X))}{n \;\text{log} \;n}. \] Thus, he proves that if \(X\) is a Banach space with \(p(X^{*})>1\), then \(e(X)=1/p(X)\). This improves the results of \textit{S.\,Révész} and \textit{Y.\,Sarantopoulos} in [``Plank problems, polarization and Chebyshev constants'', J.~Korean Math.\ Soc.\ 41, No.\,1, 157--174 (2004; Zbl 1047.46036)] concerning \(c_{n}(l_{p})\) for \(p>2\).
