In this complete and detailed paper, the author reviews some aspects of the functional RG (FRG) approach to pinned elastic manifold of internal dimension d at finite temperature \(T>0\), using the limit \(d=0\) as a test for the theory, the FRG being then equivalent to decaying Burgers equation. Among others, the anology between the Kolmogorov scaling and FRG cumulant scaling is discussed. The author also proves that the RG function and higher cumulants defined from the field theory can be obtained for any \(d\) from moments of a renormalized potential defined in a sliding harmonic well, and measures the fixed point function in numerics and experiments, whereas for \(d=0\) the beta function of the inviscid limit is obtained from the first principle. More precise results are obtained for the Sinai model, (uncorrelated Burgers initial velocities).
