    This paper is concerned with the following Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator \(A_{\Phi,G,V}\) on \(L^{p}({\mathbb R}^N,\mu)\) (\(1<p<\infty\)) \[ A_{\Phi,G,V}u = \Delta u -\nabla\Phi\cdot\nabla u + G\cdot\nabla u - Vu, \] where \(\mu(dx)=e^{-\Phi}dx\). The domain \(W^{2,p}_V({\mathbb R}^N,\mu)\) of \(A_{\Phi,G,V}\) is defined by \[ \left\{ u\in W^{2,p}_V({\mathbb R}^N)\mid D^\alpha u\in L^{p}({\mathbb R}^N,\mu) \text{ if } |\alpha|\leq 2, Vu\in L^{p}({\mathbb R}^N,\mu)\right\}. \] The authors show that, under the following conditions on \(\Phi:{\mathbb R}^N\to [0,+\infty[\), \(G:{\mathbb R}^N\to{\mathbb R}^N\) and \(V:{\mathbb R}^N\to [0,+\infty[\): (A1) \(\Phi\in C^2\), \(G\in C^1\), \(V\in C^1\) and \(\int_{{\mathbb R}^N}e^{-\Phi(x)}\,dx <\infty\), (A2) for all \(\varepsilon>0\) there exists \(c_\varepsilon>0\) such that \(|\operatorname {div}G|+|D^2\Phi|\leq \varepsilon(|\nabla\Phi|^2 + V) + c_\varepsilon\), (A3) there exists a \(\beta\in{\mathbb R}\) such that \(G\cdot\nabla\Phi-\operatorname {div}G-V\leq\beta\), (A4) there exists \(\gamma>0\) such that \(|G|\leq \gamma(|\nabla\Phi|+V^{1/2}+1) \), (A5) there exist \(\lambda>0\) and \(K_\lambda>0\) such that \(|\nabla V|\leq \lambda V^{3/2} + K_\lambda\) with \[ \lambda\left[\left( \gamma^2 + (|p-2|+p\gamma)^2/p\right)^{1/2}+p\lambda/4\right] < 1, \] \(A_{\Phi,G,V}\) generates an analytic semigroup on \(L^{p}({\mathbb R}^N,\mu)\). Some properties of this semigroup are also proved.
