The authors introduce the concept of an R-S abstract \(p\)-summing mapping from a set \(X\) to a set \(Y\) and show that such mappings are characterised by an abstract Pietsch Domination Theorem. They then show that absolutely \(p\)-summing operators, Lipschitz \(p\)-summing mappings between metric spaces, \(p\)-dominated multilinear mapping and polynomials, strongly \(p\)-summing multilinear mappings, \(p\)-semi-integral multilinear mappings, \(\tau(p)\)-summing multilinear mappings and \((D,p)\)-summing linear mappings are all special cases of R-S abstract \(p\)-summing mappings. Hence the classical domination theorems of Pietsch together with the domination theorems of \textit{J.\,D.\thinspace Farmer} and \textit{W.\,B.\thinspace Johnson} [``Lipschitz \(p\)-summing operators'', Proc.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 137, No.\,9, 2989--2995 (2009; Zbl 1183.46020)], of \textit{A.\,Pietsch} [``Ideals of multilinear functionals (designs of a theory)'', in: Operator algebras, ideals, and their applications in theoretical physics, Proc.\ int.\ Conf., Leipzig 1983, Teubner-Texte Math.\ 67, 185--199 (1984; Zbl 0562.47037)], of \textit{M.\,C.\thinspace Matos} [``Absolutely summing holomorphic mappings'', An.\ Acad.\ Bras.\ Ciênc.\ 68, No.\,1, 1--13 (1996; Zbl 0854.46042)], of \textit{V.\,Dimant} [``Strongly \(p\)-summing multilinear operators'', J.~Math.\ Anal.\ Appl.\ 278, No.\,1, 182--193 (2003; Zbl 1043.47018)], of \textit{E.\,Çalişkan} and \textit{D.\,M.\thinspace Pellegrino} [``On the multilinear generalizations of the concept of absolutely summing operators'', Rocky Mt.\ J.\ Math.\ 37, No.\,4, 1137--1154 (2007; Zbl 1152.46034)], of \textit{X.\,Mujica} [``\(\tau (p;q)\)-summing mappings and the domination theorem'', Port.\ Math.\ (N.\ S.) 65, No.\,2, 211--226 (2008; Zbl 1152.46035)] and of \textit{F.\,Martínez-Giménez} and \textit{E.\,A.\,Sánchez-Pérez} [``Vector measure range duality and factorizations of \((D,p)\)-summing operators from Banach function spaces'', Bull.\ Braz.\ Math.\ Soc.\ (N.\ S.) 35, No.\,1, 51--69 (2004; Zbl 1068.46025)] can all be recovered from the abstract Pietsch Domination Theorem. In addition, the authors obtain a Pietsch Domination Theorem for arbitrary mappings between Banach spaces which are \(p\)-summing at a point.
