A general modification of the Kohn-Nirenberg example is considered which is the germ of a set near the origin in \({\mathbb C}^2\): \(\Omega_k = \{ (z,w) \in {\mathbb C}^2: r(z,w) = Re\, w + |z w|^2 + |z|^p + k |z|^{p-q} Re\, (z^q) < 0\}\), where \(p\in {\mathbb R}\), \(q\in {\mathbb Z}_+\), and \(p - q - 2\geq 0\). The main result of the paper states. Theorem. Let \(\Omega_k\) be the above introduced set. If \(|k| < \frac{p^2}{p^2 - q^2}\), then \(\Omega_k\) is a strongly pseudoconvex domain away from the origin, and if \(1 < k < \frac{p^2}{p^2 - q^2}\), \(q \nmid p\), then there does not exist any \({\mathcal C}^1\)-peak function and support surface at \(0\in \partial\, \Omega_k\).
