The author studies the ''tetrus', the member \(M_{4,1}\) of a family of hyperbolic \(3\)-manifolds \(M_{n,k}\) with totally geodesic boundary constructed by \textit{L. Paoluzzi} and \textit{B. Zimmermann} [Geom. Dedicata 60, No.~2, 113--123 (1996; Zbl 0857.57009)]. The double \(D M\) (resp. the twisted double \(D_{\mu}M\)) of \(M=M_{4,1}\) is obtained by gluing \(M\) to a copy of \(M\) with opposite orientation (resp. to its mirror image) via the identity map of the boundary surface (resp. via an isometry \(\mu\)). The author constructs a \(6\)-sheeted cover \(p: {D\tilde M} \rightarrow DM\) such that \(D{\tilde M}\) is a double over the (connected) closed surface \(p^{-1}(\partial M)\) and fibers over \(S^1\) with fiber a closed surface \({\tilde F}\) (of genus \(19\)), thus obtaining an example of a hyperbolic \(3\)-manifold that is both fibered and a double across a closed surface. (This is the first example of this kind). As a corollary he shows that \(D{\tilde M}\) has a weakly reducible Heegaard splitting of genus \(25\) associated to \(p^{-1}(\partial M)\), and one of genus \(39\) associated to \({\tilde F}\). He then shows that \(D M\) is non-arithmetic, but \(D_{\mu}M\) is arithmetic.
