      Let \(\{\phi_1,\dots,\phi_n\}\) be a family of linearly independent functions in \(C[a,b]\), and let \(\{\psi_1,\dots,\psi_m\}\) be a linearly independent functions set in \(C[a,b]\) satisfying a Haar condition. By \(V\) and \(W\) denote, respectively, the subspaces of \(C[a,b]\) generated by them. Suppose \(\mathcal{R}\) is the set of generalized rational functions \(p/q\), where \(p\in V\), \(q\in W\), and \(\| q\| =\| \sum_1^{m}a_j\psi_j\| =\sum_1^{m}| a_j| =1\). If \(D_j\subset [a,b]\), \(1\leq j\leq m\), are pairwise disjoint closed sets of positive Lebesgue measure \(| D_j| \), \(D=\bigcup D_j\), and \(f\) is a measurable function defined on \([a,b]\) which satisfies a suitable condition, then the authors obtain the following inequality \(\min_{1\leq j\leq m}\| f- r\| _{\infty, D}\leq K\| f- r\| _{p, D}\), where \(\| \cdot\| _{p, D}\),\ \(0\leq p\leq\infty\), is the \(L^p\)-quasi-norm on \(D\). An estimate of the constant \(K\) in terms of \(| D_j| \), when \(f\equiv 0\), \(n=1\), \(\phi_1(x)\equiv 1\), and \(\psi_i(x)=x^{i-1}\), \(1\leq i\leq m\), are also given.
