    For a sequence \(\Lambda=(\lambda_j)^{\infty}_{j=0}\) of distinct exponents \(\lambda_j\in(0, 1)\), let \(H_n(\Lambda):=\{{\text{span}}\{x^{\lambda_0}(1-x)^{1-\lambda_0}, x^{\lambda_1}(1-x)^{1-\lambda_1},\dots, x^{\lambda_n}(1-x)^{1-\lambda_n}\}\), and let \(H(\Lambda):=\bigcup_{n=0}^{\infty}H_n(\Lambda)\). Answering a question of G. Mastroianni, the author shows that \(H(\Lambda)\) is dense in \(C_0[0, 1]:=\{f\in C[0, 1]: f(0)=f(1)=0\}\) in the uniform norm on \([0, 1]\) if and only if \(\sum^{\infty}_{j=0}(1/2-| 1/2-\lambda_j| )=\infty\).
