This excellent paper extends the concept of the Henstock-Kurzweil integration to functions defined on time scales, arbitrary closed sets in \(\mathbb R\), see for instance \textit{S. Hilger} [Result. Math. 18, No. 1/2, 18--56 (1990; Zbl 0722.39001)]. Using the concepts of nabla and delta derivatives, and other ideas introduced in the theory of the calculus of time scales the authors define delta and nabla gauges and then Henstock-Kurzweil delta and nabla integrals. These integrals are shown to generalize the corresponding Riemann nabla and delta integrals defined by \textit{M. Bohner} and \textit{A. Peterson} [Dynamic equations on time scales. An introduction with applications'. Basel: Birkhäuser (2001; Zbl 0978.39001)], as well as the corresponding Cauchy-Newton integrals. The properties of the Henstock-Kurzweil delta and nabla integrals are obtained. These properties and many of the proofs are similar to those in the more classical situation and so some proofs are omitted. The paper includes many illustrative examples and concludes with an application that gives a general Taylor theorem and a general mean-value theorem.
