Minkowski \( 3 \)-space is the flat space \( {\mathbb R}^{3} \) endowed with the standard inner product of type \( (-,+,+) \). A helicoidal surface in this space is generated by applying a non-translational \( 1 \)-parameter group of rigid motions to a plane curve not intersecting the axis of the group. The curve and the axis are contained in the same plane. Using a former classification of such groups [\textit{F. Dillen} and \textit{W. Kühnel}, Manuscr. Math. 98, No. 3, 307--320 (1999; Zbl 0942.53004)], the authors explicitly determine all helicoidal surfaces with collapsing principal curvatures. In particular, the principal curvatures must be constant and the shape operator must be of genuine Jordan type (i.e., non-diagonalizable). So, the resulting surfaces are generalized umbilical in the sense of \textit{M. A. Magid} [Pac. J. Math. 118, 165--197 (1985; Zbl 0561.53057)]. These surfaces come in five subclasses, each member being parametrized using an indefinite integral (which could be evaluated elementarily).
