This paper deals with the class of \(\gamma^*_n\)-complete hypergroups and provides a good insight into the study of hypergroup theory under the strongly regular equivalences. More precisely, the relation \(\gamma^*\) [\textit{D. Freni}, Commun. Algebra 30, No. 8, 3977-3989 (2002; Zbl 1021.20045)] is used, that generalizes the ``fundamental'' equivalence relation \(\beta^*\) [\textit{M. Koskas}, J. Math. Pures Appl., IX. Sér. 49, 155-192 (1970; Zbl 0194.02201)], i.e., \(\beta^*\) is the smallest equivalence such that the quotient of a hypergroup \(H\) modulo \(\beta^*\) becomes a group. So, the \(\gamma_n\)-complete hypergroups generalize the \(n\)-complete hypergroups [\textit{R. Migliorato}, Ann. Sci. Univ. Clermont-Ferrand II 89, Math. 23, 99-123 (1986; Zbl 0646.20066)] which are based on the relation \(\beta\) and in the same manner, the \(\gamma^*_n\)-complete hypergroups are more general than the \(n^*\)-complete hypergroups [\textit{M. De Salvo} and \textit{G. Lo Faro}, Discrete Math. 208-209, 177-188 (1999; Zbl 0940.20074)]. The authors prove that every finite hypergroup is \(\gamma^*_n\)-complete and in case that commutativity holds the \(\gamma_n\)-complete and the \(n^*\)-complete hypergroups are identified. The properties of the previous hyperstructures are investigated and interesting examples are given. Finally, the class of \(\gamma^*_2\)-complete hypergroups is studied by making evident that the well known 1-hypergroups, canonical hypergroups and join spaces belong to this class.
