Global Positioning System (GPS) is a term which is already included in dictionaries and designates the system that permits the location of an emitting source located on the Earth by the use of a satellite network. The book is devoted to this subject and at the same time to the Galileo System, a forthcoming European satellite-based navigation system. Both of them belong to the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The exposition is given in the frame of the Software-defined Radios, which designates a technology which is based on a flexible open-architecture receiver that permits to build a dynamic connection of various modules. The work of this platform is described in a MATLAB coding language. To have an idea of the included topics, we give its contents: Preface; List of Figures; List of Tables; Abbreviations; 1. Signals and Systems; 2. GPS Signal; 3. Galileo Signal; 4. GNSS Antennas and Front Ends; 5. GNSS Receiver Operation Overview; 6. Acquisition; 7. Carrier and Code Tracking; 8. Data Processing for Positioning; Problems; A MATLAB Code; GNSS Simulation; Bibliography; Index. We want to point to the main merits of the book: 1) a clear presentation of the basic signal structure in GPS and Galileo System; b) design and implementation of a GPS signal generator; c) a complete GPS software receiver implemented using MATLAB code as well as a GLOVE-A signal records available on a companion DVD allowing to change various parameters; d) signal acquisition procedures; e) supplementary indications related to the use of the book; an up-to-date bibliography. It is worthy to mention that Windows and LINUX can be used. The book is intended for applied mathematicians, electrical engineers, geodesists and graduate students as a reference book as well as for self-study.
