Problem 12.82 of The Kourovka notebook [\textit{V. D. Mazurov} and \textit{E. I. Khukhro} (eds.), The Kourovka notebook. Unsolved problems in group theory. 15th ed., Institute of Mathematics, Novosibirsk (2002; Zbl 0999.20001)] asks for all ordered pairs \((n,m)\) such that the symmetric group \(S_n\) contains a maximal subgroup isomorphic to \(S_m\). In this paper, the authors answer the above question by producing a third family of ordered pairs and showing that no other pairs exist. The first family of ordered pair is \((n,n-1)\) and the second family was obtained by \textit{L. A. Kaluzhnin} and \textit{M. Kh. Klin} [Mat. Sb., N. Ser. 87(129), 91-121 (1972; Zbl 0238.20009)] and \textit{E. Halberstadt} [Math. Z. 151, 117-125 (1976; Zbl 0314.20001)].
