Let \(f_1,\dots,f_r\in K[x]\) be homogeneous polynomials with coefficients in the field \(K\) and define \[ F=\sum^r_{i=1}y_if(x)\in K[x,y]. \] The quotient \(J=K [x,y]/I\), where \(I\) is the ideal generated by all the partial derivatives \(\frac{\partial F}{\partial x_j}\), \(\frac{\partial F}{\partial y_i}\) of \(F\) is the Jacobian ring of \(F\). This ring plays a key role in the Hodge theory associated to the smooth projective complete intersection given by \(f_1=\dots= f_r=0\) (when \(K=\mathbb{C})\) and in obtaining lower bounds for the Newton polygons associated to some zeta-functions. In this second direction, the case \(r=1\) was treated by Dwork, the general case by Mazur and a new proof was obtained by Adolphson and Sperber (under a stronger hypothesis). The results of the present paper are purely algebraic and they will serve to give a proof of Mazur's theorem in full generality in a subsequent paper.
