The author considers the Cauchy problem \[ \begin{aligned} u_t=\Delta u+e^u,&\quad x\in \mathbb R^N,\;t>0,\\ u(x,0)=u_0(x),&\quad x\in \mathbb R^N, \end{aligned} \] where \(u_0\) is a continuous function on \(\mathbb R^N\). His first theorem contains a detailed information on the number of intersections of the graphs of steady states. Then he studies the stability properties of the steady states as well as the behavior of solutions whose initial conditions are either below or above a steady state. The results depend on the dimension, the cases \(N=1\), \(N=2\), \(3\leq N\leq 9\), and \(N\geq 10\), requiring separate treatments. These results complement previously known theorems on the power nonlinearity.
