This paper proves the Dipper-James conjecture which has been open for more than 17 years. The conjecture states that the center of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of type \(A\) over an arbitrary commutative base ring such that \(q\) is invertible is the set of symmetric polynomials in the Jucys-Murphy operators.
