The authors observe that for some families of locally homogeneous metrics on \(4\)-manifolds, the Ricci flow does not preserve the diagonalization of the initially diagonalized metric. They identify a large group of families of initially locally homogeneous metrics on \(4\)-manifolds that can be diagonalized so that the Ricci flow preserves the diagonalization. For these families they study the long term behavior and observe that it is similar to the one in dimension \(3\). Namely (we quote from the paper's Introduction): ``either (a) the volume normalized Ricci flow converges to a metric of constant sectional or constant holomorphic bisectional curvature (\(\mathbb CP^2\) and \(\mathbb CH^2);\) or (b) as \(t\to +\infty\) the Ricci flow collapses to a lower dimensional flat manifold with the curvature decaying at the rate \(\frac{1}{t};\) or (c) the Ricci flow approaches, either in finite or in infinite time, a direct product of lower dimensional geometries with constant sectional curvature.''
