In this very important and useful paper the author studies the following question: Given two polynomials \([P,Q]\) such that if \(P(x)=Q(x)\), \(x \in S_x\) (unit sphere) will this imply the identity \([P=Q]\)? Equivalently, if a polynomial \(P\) is such that \(P_{|_{S_x}}=0\), does this yield \(P=0\)? Main result: The author shows for Banach spaces with unconditional basis, being non-reflexive is a sufficient condition to assure that \(S_x\) determines \(\Im (x)\) (really linear space). Proving non-reflexivity to be unnecessary it is shown that the unit sphere of the spaces \(l_p\), with \(p\) not being an even integrer, also determines continuous polynomials. The class of polynomial determining sets in any real Banach space is introduced.
