The quantum permutation group \({\mathcal Q}_n\) of \(n\) points (for \(n\geq 4\)) is an infinite compact quantum group in the sense of \textit{S.\,L.\thinspace Woronowicz} [Commun.\ Math.\ Phys.\ 111, No.\,4, 613--665 (1987; Zbl 0627.58034)]. In the paper under review, the authors present some useful motivations for the study of \({\mathcal Q}_n\). Next, as their main purpose, they characterize the Haar integral over \({\mathcal Q}_n\). More precisely, they give the Weingarten type formula \[ \int u_{i_1j_1}\cdot\cdot\cdot u_{i_kj_k}=\sum_{pq}\delta_{pi}\delta_{qj}W_{kn}(p,q) \] in which the \(u_{ij}\)'s are the coefficients of the fundamental representation of \({\mathcal Q}_n\), and \(W_{kn}\) is the Weingarten matrix derived by the Gram matrix of partitions \(G_{kn}\). Some problems related to free probability theory are extensively explained.
