It is known that there is an interesting connection between self-dual regular figures and skew regular polyhedra (such as the famous Petrie-Coxeter polyhedra, or Coxeter's skew regular polyhedra in 4-space). \textit{P. McMullen} and \textit{E. Schulte} [Result. Math. 12, 366--375 (1987; Zbl 0649.52005)] investigated this connection in the context of abstract regular polytopes, giving a construction of regular ``Petrie-Coxeter-type'' polyhedra from self-dual regular 4-polytopes. The authors of the present paper extend all these ideas and methods to abstract chiral polytopes, exploiting proper and improper self-duality for chiral polytopes. They construct polyhedra from chiral 4-polytopes which are themselves chiral or regular. E.g., from improperly self-dual chiral 4-polytopes they obtain abstract chiral analogues of the ordinary Petrie-Coxeter polyhedra. Their groups of automorphisms are investigated, too.
