Let \(\mathbb{D}\) be the unit disk \(\{z:| z| <1\}\) in the complex plane \(\mathbb{C}\), and let \(\text{Hol}(\mathbb{D})\) denote the space of all analytic functions in \(\mathbb{D}\). For \(0<p<\infty\) and \(\alpha>-1\), the space of Dirichlet type \(\mathcal{D}_\alpha^{p}\) consists of those functions \(f\in\text{Hol}(\mathbb{D})\) for which \[ \| f\|_{{\mathcal{D}}_\alpha^{p}}=\left(| f(0)|^{p}+\int_\mathbb{D}(1-| z|)^{\alpha}| f'(z)|^p\,dA(z)\right)^{\frac{1}{p}}<\infty, \] where \(dA(z)=\frac{1}{\pi}\,dx\,dy\) is the normalized Lebesgue area measure. If \(I\subset\partial\mathbb{D}\) is an interval of \(\partial\mathbb{D}\), \(| I|\) denotes the length of \(I\). The Carleson square \(S(I)\) is defined as \[ S(I)=\left\{re^{it}:e^{it}\in I,\;1-{\textstyle\frac{| I|}{2\pi}}\leq r<1\right\}. \] For \(s>0\) and a positive Borel measure \(\mu\) in \(\mathbb{D}\), \(\mu\) is called an \(s\)-Carleson measure if there exists a positive constant \(C\) such that \(\mu(S(I))\leq C| I|^{s}\) for any interval \(I\subset\partial\mathbb{D}\). The multiplication operator \(M_g\) is defined by \[ M_g(f)(z)=g(z)f(z),\quad f\in\text{Hol}(\mathbb{D}),\;z\in\mathbb{D}. \] In the paper under review, the authors characterize the positive Borel measures \(\mu\) in \(\mathbb{D}\) such that \(\mathcal{D}_\alpha^{p}\subset L^{q}(d\mu)\), \(0<p<q<\infty\). The typical sort of theorem for special parameter values is the following: For \(0<p<q<\infty\), \(\mathcal{D}_{p-1}^p\subset L^q(d\mu) \Longleftrightarrow \mu\) is a \(\frac{q}{p}\)-Carleson measure. Further, they characterize the pointwise multipliers from \(\mathcal{D}_\alpha^{p}\) to \(\mathcal{D}_\beta^{q}\) (\(0<p<q<\infty\)) if \(p-2<\alpha<p\). In particular, it is shown that if \((2+\alpha)/p-(\beta+2)q>0\), the only pointwise multiplier from \(\mathcal{D}_\alpha^{p}\) to \(\mathcal{D}_\beta^{q}\) \((0<p<q<\infty)\) is the trivial one. However, this is no longer true for \((2+\alpha)/p-(\beta+2)/q\leq0\), and a number of explicit examples of functions which are multipliers from \(\mathcal{D}_\alpha^{p}\) to \(\mathcal{D}_\beta^{q}\) for this range of values is given.
