    Suppose \((a_{i,n})_n, (b_{i,n})_n\in\mathbb{N}^\mathbb{N}\) for \(i=1,\dots,K\), and that \((a_{1,n})\) is non-decreasing. Moreover, assume that, with fixed real \(\mu,\nu\geq 0, \varepsilon>0\) satisfying \(\mu+\nu<\varepsilon/(1+\varepsilon)\), the following conditions hold (the first three for \(n\) large enough). (i): \(a_{1,n}\geq n^{1+\varepsilon}\), (ii): \(b_{i,n}\leq a_{1,n}^\mu\) \((1\leq i\leq K)\), (iii): \(a_{1,n}^{1-\nu}\leq a_{i,n}\leq a_{1,n}^{1+\nu}\) \((1\leq i\leq K)\), (iv): \(a_{i,n}b_{j,n}= \text{o}(a_{j,n}b_{i,n})\) as \(n\to\infty\) \((1\leq j<i\leq K)\), (v): \(\lim\sup_{n\to\infty}a_{1,n}^{\kappa^{-n}}= \infty\), where \(\kappa:=1+(K+K\nu-\nu)/(1-\mu-\nu)\). Then the \(K\) sequences \((a_{i,n}/b_{i,n})_n\) \((1\leq i\leq K)\) are linearly unrelated. This notion was introduced by the present author [Pac. J. Math. 109, 299--310 (1999; Zbl 1005.11033)], and generalizes \textit{P. Erdős}' [J. Math. Sci. 10, 1--7 (1975; Zbl 0372.10023)] notion of an irrational sequence. The proof is elementary but very technical. A few applications and an open problem are mentioned.
