Let \(\mathcal C\) be a finitely generated projective coring over a ring \(A\). The main result of the paper shows that the right dual of the canonical coring associated to the ring morphism \(i\colon A\to{^*\mathcal C}\) (where \(^*\mathcal C\) is the left dual of \(\mathcal C\)) is isomorphic to the opposite endomorphism ring \(\text{End}(_A\mathcal C)^{op}\). A duality theorem of \textit{R. J. Blattner} and \textit{S. Montgomery} [J. Algebra 95, 153-172 (1985; Zbl 0589.16010)] and \textit{M. Van den Bergh} [Methods in ring theory, Proc. NATO Adv. Study Inst., Antwerp/Belg. 1983, NATO ASI Ser., Ser. C 129, 517-522 (1984; Zbl 0542.16007)] for finitely generated projective Hopf algebras over commutative rings is derived after realizing the smash product as the dual of a coring. A version of a result of \textit{H.-J. Schneider} [Advances in Hopf algebras, Lect. Notes Pure Appl. Math. 158, 267-297 (1994; Zbl 0817.16017)], which generalizes the duality theorem, is extended to corings.
