In this paper the thermal instability of a viscoelastic fluid in a porous medium is studied. The case of a below heated with constant temperature gradient is considered. The steady state solution is used to find the perturbation equations. The dispersion relation for the disturbances is derived using the perturbation equations. The principle of exchange of stabilities is validated for this problem. The dispersion relation is analyzed numerically and the destabilizing role of the permeability of the medium is studied. The same problem is studied for the uniformly rotating case. The dispersion relation is derived and the stabilizing and disabling effect of the medium permeability is also considered. Finally the oscillatory modes in the rotating case are studied.
