If \(R\) is a left Noetherian ring then the author calls an \(R\)-module a lattice if its socle is \(0\). A Noetherian ring is called lattice finite if there are only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable lattices. The purpose of the paper is to study Noetherian lattice finite rings and to develop a theory of orders for these rings. In this sense the paper under review is a generalisation of the author's article [Algebr. Represent. Theory 8, No. 3, 375--395 (2005; Zbl 1094.16012)]. The first main result states that whenever for a left Noetherian lattice finite ring \(R\) the left regular \(R\)-module is a lattice, then \(R\) is an order in a semisimple ring. Then, using a definition due to Gabriel-Rentschler of the Krull dimension of a ring, the author shows that lattice finite Noetherian rings have Krull dimension at most \(1\). A categorical version of this statement is given, as well as an analogous result on the Auslander algebra. Then, most interestingly, for a lattice finite left Noetherian ring \(R\) for which the left regular module is a lattice, an idempotent ideal \(I\) is constructed as the maximal one annihilating the simple \(R\)-modules \(S\) for which \(\text{Ext}^1(S,R)=0\) and for which the length of \(R/I\) is finite. The ideal \(I\) has many natural and interesting properties with respect to the Picard group of \(R\). As a consequence of this discussion the author shows that maximal left lattice finite Noetherian rings are Asano orders. -- The proofs consist in very elegant and neat arguments.
