Let \(\text{Quiv}(P)\) denote the monoidal category of quivers over a set \(P\) with tensor product given by pull-back. A solution of the braid equation in \(P\) is called a braided quiver. \textit{N. Andruskiewitsch} showed that there is a bijective correspondence between non-degenerate braided quivers \(A\) and pairs \((G,A)\), where \(G\) is a braided groupoid and \(A\) is a representation of \(G\) satisfying certain properties [Sel. Math., New Ser. 11, No. 2, 203-246 (2005; Zbl 1113.17007)]. The concept of braided groupoid involves matched pairs of groupoids. A description of matched pairs of groupoids in group-theoretical terms was given by \textit{N. Andruskiewitsch} and \textit{S. Natale} [Publ. Mat. Urug. 10, 11-51 (2005; Zbl 1092.16021)] and also discussed by \textit{N. Andruskiewitsch} and \textit{J. M. Mombelli} [Nagoya Math. J. 181, 1-27 (2006; Zbl 1111.16036)]. In the paper under review, the authors describe braided groups in terms of group theory. They obtain matched pairs of groupoids from the data \((D,V,H,n)\), where \(V\) and \(H\) are subgroups of a finite group \(D\), such that \(V\) intersects trivially any conjugate of \(H\), and \(n\colon V\backslash D/H\to D\) is a section of the canonical projection. Certain maps are defined which govern the multiplication in \(D\). The main theorem characterizes braided groupoids in terms of such data, subject to some restrictions on the maps governing \(D\), and on a certain isomorphism from \(H\) to \(V\). A construction is given of certain braided groupoids which satisfy a property that the authors call ``handy'', and they explicitly compute the braiding for them.
