Fix integers \(d>r>1\) and \(k \geq 1\) such that \((k+1)(r+1) = (r+d)!/(r!d!)\). A generic homogeneous polynomial of degree \(d\) in \(r+1\) variables can be expressed as a sum of \(k+1\) \(d\)-powers of linear forms in a unique way if and only if \((r,d) = (2,5)\) [\textit{M. Mella}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 358 No.~12, 5523--5538 (2005; Zbl 1112.14062)]. This is a Waring type problem for totally symmetric tensors. Here the author gives a nice extension of Mella's work to partially symmetric tensors (i.e. embeddings of products of projective spaces). His main result involve assumptions on non \(k\)-weak defectivity. Many corollary follows (for 2 or 3 factors), e.g. fix integers \(d_2 \geq d_1 \geq 4\) and \(k \geq 1\) such that \((d_1+1)(d_2+1) = 3(k+1)\). Then a general \((d_1,d_2)\) partially symmetric tensor in \(\mathbb {P}^N\), \(N:= 2^{d_1+d_2-1}\) is expressed in more than one way as a sum of \(k+1\) decomposable tensors.
