The authors use a new concept of uniformly asymptotically regular sequence \(\{ T_{n}\}\) of nonexpansive mappings to extend and improve the results of \textit{J.\,C.\,O'Hara, P.\,Pillay} and \textit{H.--K.\thinspace Xu} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl.\ 54A, No.\,8, 1417--1426 (2003; Zbl 1052.47049)], \textit{J.\,S.\thinspace Jung} [J.~Math.\ Anal.\ Appl.\ 302, No.\,2, 509--520 (2005; Zbl 1062.47069)] and of \textit{H.\,K.\thinspace Xu} [J.~Math.\ Anal.\ Appl.\ 298, No.\,1, 279--291 (2004; Zbl 1061.47060)]. Their study is based on the iteration scheme \[ x_{n+1}=\lambda _{n+1}y + (1-\lambda _{n+1})T_{n+1}x_{n}, \quad n \geq 1, \] introduced in [\textit{B.\,Halpern}, Bull.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 73, 957--961 (1967; Zbl 0177.19101)]. They assume the sequence of nonexpansive maps \(\{ T_{n}\} \) to be uniformly asymptotically regular and study the strong convergence of the iterative scheme defined by \[ x_{n+1}=\lambda_{n+1}f(x_{n})+(1-\lambda_{n+1})T_{n+1}x_{n}, \quad n \geq 0, \quad \{ \lambda_{n}\} \subset (0,1), \] to a unique element of the sequence \(\{z_{t}\}\) generated by a nonexpansive self-map \(T: K \to K\) by the iterative scheme \[ z_{t}=tf(z_{t} + (1-t)Tz_{t}, \] with \(f\) being a contractive map on a subset \(K\) of a real strictly convex Banach space \(E\) with uniformly Gâteaux differentiable norm.
