The author presents a new method for the construction of companion forms for Hilbert modular forms of parallel weights. The key idea is to use results of \textit{R. Ramakrishna} [Ann. Math. (2) 156, No. 1, 115--154 (2002; Zbl 1076.11035)] to construct a suitable characteristic zero Galois representation and prove its modularity using work of Kisin.
