The present paper contains two interesting asymptotical growth results on the Haar measure of a Lie group. Let \(G\subset \text{GL}(V)\) be a connected, noncompact, semisimple linear Lie group. In Theorem 1 it is shown that there exist \(d,e>0\) and a Radon measure \(\mu\neq 0\) on \(\text{End}(V)\) such that for every \(f\in C_c^\infty(\text{End}(V))\) one has, as \(T\to\infty\), \[ \int_G f\left(\frac gT\right)\,dg \sim\;T^d(\log T)^e \int_{\text{End}(V)}f\,d\mu, \] where \(dg\) is a fixed Haar measure on \(G\). If \(\Gamma\) is an irreducible lattice in \(G\), then Theorem 2 says that the term \[ \text{vol}(\Gamma\backslash G)\sum_{\gamma \in\Gamma}f\left(\frac{\gamma}T\right) \] has the same asymptotic growth as \(T\to \infty\). The last statement can be used for statements on numbers of lattice points. Theorem 1 is proved using the integration formula attached to the Cartan \(KA^+K\)-decomposition of \(G\). The proof of Theorem 2 uses a vanishing of matrix coefficients result of Howe and Moore.
