The paper discusses the delay differential equation with two independent time delays having the form \[ x'(t)= f(x(t- \tau_1), x(t-\tau_2)),\tag{1} \] with an initial function \(x^0: [-\overline\tau, 0]\to \mathbb{R}_+= [0,\infty)\), where \(\tau_1\), \(\tau_2\) and \(\overline\tau= \max\{\tau_1, \tau_2\}\) are nonnegative constants. It is assumed that \(f:\mathbb{R}^2\to\mathbb{R}\) is continuously differentiable and \(f(0,0)= 0\), so (1) has the trivial solution. Let \(-A_1\), \(-A_2\) be the first partial derivatives of \(f\). Then we can linearize (1) around the trivial solution obtaining \[ x'(t)= -A_1 x(t-\tau_1)- A_2x(t- \tau_2).\tag{2} \] The author considers the cases when the coefficients of (2) have different signs and when the coefficients are positive. In those cases the stability of the trivial solution of (2) and the Hopf bifurcation for (1) are analyzed.
