A holomorphic family \(\pi: X\to B\), where \(X_t= \pi^{-1}(t)\) are smooth for \(t\neq 0\), \(X\) and \(X_0\) are \(\mathbb{Q}\)-Gorenstein, such that the canonical bundle of \(X_t\) for \(t\neq 0\) and the dualizing sheaf of \(X_0\) are ample is called a canonical degeneration. The main result of the paper is the following theorem. Let \(\pi: X\to B\) be a toroidal canonical degeneration of Kähler-Einstein manifolds \((X,g_t)\) with \(\text{Ric}(g_t)= -g_t\). Then the Kähler-Einstein metrics \(g_t\) on \(X_t\) converge in the sence of Cheeger-Gromov to a complete Cheng-Yan Kähler-Einstein metric \(g_0\) on the smooth part of the canonical limit \(X_0'\) (which is a finite cover of the central fibre \(X_0)\). For Part I, cf. \textit{W.-D. Ruan}, Commun. Contemp. Math. 6, No. 2, 301--313 (2004; Zbl 1075.53076).
