Leavitt path algebras have been introduced by \textit{G. Abrams} and \textit{G. Aranda Pino} [J. Algebra 293, No. 2, 319-334 (2005; Zbl 1119.16011)]; [see also \textit{P. Ara, M. A. Moreno} and \textit{E. Pardo}, Algebr. Represent. Theory 10, No. 2, 157-178 (2007; Zbl 1123.16006)]. They are algebraic analogues of Cuntz-Krieger graph \(C^*\)-algebras of directed graphs [\textit{J. Cuntz}, \textit{W. Krieger}, Invent. Math. 56, 251-268 (1980; Zbl 0434.46045)] and also provide an interesting generalization of the algebras investigated by \textit{W. G. Leavitt} [in Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 103, 113-130 (1962; Zbl 0112.02701)]. The authors show that the Leavitt path algebra \(L_K(E)\) of a directed graph \(E\) over a field \(K\) is finite dimensional if and only if \(E\) is finite and acyclic. Two distinct classes of connected graphs are presented so that, modulo the one-dimensional ideals, all finite-dimensional Leavitt path algebras arise from the graphs in each class.
