In his approach [``Disks, duality and \(\theta \)-categories'' (1997, unpublished)], \textit{André Joyal} defined a category \(\mathbb{D}\) of finite discs, and considered its dual category \(\Theta \) which can be identified with a full subcategory of the category of omega-categories. The omega-categories in \(\Theta \), called Batanin cells by Joyal, are free on globular pasting schemes, and called simple omega-categories by \textit{M. Makkai} and \textit{M. Zawadowski} [Theory Appl. Categ. 8, 114--243 (2001; Zbl 1002.18006)]. The present paper shows that \(\Theta \) is equivalent to a category of certain chain complexes and that \(\mathbb{D}\) is equivalent to a category of certain cochain complexes. Connections with the work of \textit{C. Berger} [``Iterated wreath product of the simplex category and iterated loop spaces'', Adv. Math. 213, 230--270 (2007; Zbl 1127.18008)] are established.
