Let \(E\subset J^k(M)\) be a system of scalar differential equations on a manifold \(M\), represented as a finite set of equations \(F_i= 0\). Let \((F)\) be the differential ideal of all operators \(\sum G_iF_i\), where \(G_i\) are arbitrary differential operators on \(M\). Two compatibility criteria for the system \(E\) are discussed. The first one is due to \textit{B. S. Kruglikov} and \textit{V. V. Lychgin} [Global Anal. Appl. Math., International Workshop on Global Analysis 729, 39--53 (2004; Zbl 1121.58004)] and it is expressed in terms of the Jacobi brackets: \(\{F_i, F_j\}\sim 0\,(\text{mod}(F))\). The second one rests on the concept of the differential Gröbner basis \(B_j\) of \(E\) (a short proof is involved) and is expressed by \(B_j\sim 0\,(\text{mod}(F))\). Several rather advanced concepts of differential algebra, Ritt-Kolchin theory and Janet contributions are not adequately explained and therefore the intentions of the author cannot be easily understood.
