A harmonic morphism is a map between Riemannian manifolds that preserves the solutions of Laplace equations (see [\textit{P. Baird} and \textit{J. C. Wood}, Harmonic morphisms between Riemannian manifolds. London Mathematical Society Monographs. New Series 29. Oxford: Oxford University Press (2003; Zbl 1055.53049)] for detailed account on harmonic morphisms). In a previous paper [\textit{X. Mo} and \textit{Y. Shi}, Geom. Dedicata, 93, 89--94 (2002; Zbl 1016.58004)] the same authors proved that there exists no proper harmonic morphism between hyperbolic manifolds which is \(\mathcal{C}^2\) up to the boundary at infinity, where a map being proper means that the interior part of the pre-image of any interior compact subset is compact. In the paper under review, the authors generalize their result by showing that there is no proper harmonic morphism from a weakly asymptotically hyperbolic manifold into a hyperbolic manifold which is \(\mathcal{C}^2\) up to the boundary at infinity. Here, a weakly asymptotically hyperbolic manifold is asymptotic to the hyperbolic space in some sense (see precise definition and examples in the paper) and is a generalization of the notion of a hyperbolic manifold.
