Line transversals to translates of unit discs (Q878383)

The author analyzes conditions when a finite family of translates of a unit disc in \(R^2\) may be intersected by a straight line. Namely, let \(B\) be a unit disc, \(F=\{x_i+B \}\) be a finite family of translates of \(B\). Suppose that every four discs in \(F\) may be intersected by a straight line. Then the family \(F=\{x_i+\frac{1+\sqrt{5}}{2}B \}\) consists of discs which may be intersected by a straight line [see also \textit{J. Eckhoff}, Arch.
