The authors study the Swift-Hohenberg-Kuramoto-Shivashinsky equation \[ \partial_tu=-(1+\partial_x^2)^2u+\alpha u-\beta u\partial_xu-\gamma u^3\text{ in }\mathbb R\times\mathbb R^+, \] where \(\alpha\), \(\beta\) and \(\gamma\) are real parameters. There are studied instability properties near the nontrivial solution and it is assumed that \(0<\alpha <\varepsilon^2\ll 1\) is a small bifurcation parameter. The second major result of the present paper concerns the attractivity of the set of modulated pattern. The proofs combine elliptic estimates with adequate asymptotic methods.
