The paper constructs, by a power series ansatz, analytical solutions to a special type of (complex) functional differential equation, where the `delay' (it is complex) depends on iterates \(x^{[j]}\) of the solution, e.g., \(x'(z) = x^{[2]}(z) + G(z)\). (Such equations do not fall in the class which one usually associates with the term `state-dependent delay'.) The construction depends on number-theoretical properties (the degree of irrationality) of \( \alpha= G(0)\). Key methods are the transformation to an equation without iterates, an inequality for the coefficients of the power series, and a comparison argument involving a function with coefficients that satisfy the same inequality with the equality sign. An explicit example is included.
