This article gives a complex analysis lighting on the problem which consists in restoring a bordered connected Riemannian surface \(X\) from its boundary and its Dirichlet-Neumann (DN) operator. The three aspects of this problem, unicity, reconstruction and characterization are approached. The authors give a significant improvement of results in [\textit{M. I. Belishev} and \textit{Y. V. Kurylev}, Commun. Partial Differ. Equations 17, No. 5/6, 767--804 (1992; Zbl 0812.58094) and \textit{M. Lassas} and \textit{G. Uhlmann}, Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. 34, 771--787 (2001; Zbl 0992.35120)] on how unique \(X\) can be when a restricted DN-datum is specified. Assume that \(X\) and \(X'\) are open Riemann surfaces with restricted DN-datum \((\gamma, u, \theta u)\). Then, there is an isomorphism of Riemann surfaces with almost smooth boundary between \(X\cup\gamma\) and \(X'\cup\gamma\) whose restriction on \(\gamma\) is the identity.
