Let \(\omega:\mathbb R\to\mathbb R_+\) be a nonnegative function on \(\mathbb R\) such that \(\omega(\cdot)\in L^1_{\text{loc}} (\mathbb R)\) and \(\omega(x)>0\) for almost all \(x\in\mathbb R\). The space \(L^2(\mathbb R,\omega)\) is the traditional Hilbert space of square integrable measurable functions on the axis with the weight \(\omega (x)\), equipped with the traditional inner product \[ (f,g)_\omega = \int_{\mathbb R}f(t)^-g(t)\omega(t)\,dt. \] In the space \(L^2(\mathbb R,\omega)\), the author defines the linear operator \[ L_\omega=-\frac {\operatorname{sgn}xd^2}{\omega (x)dx^2}, \quad \text{dom}(L)=\left\{f\in L^2(\mathbb R,\omega):f,f'\in W^1_{1,\text{loc}}(\mathbb R),\;L_\omega f\in L^2(\mathbb R,\omega)\right\}. \] This paper studies the problem of similarity of the operator \(L_\omega\) to a self-adjoint operator. The main result of this paper is as follows. Theorem. If the operator \(L_\omega\) is determined by the above requirements on \(L_\omega\) and the weight function \(\omega(\cdot,\cdot)\) satisfies some additional requirements, then for the critical point 0\( \)to be regular and hence for the operator \(L_\omega\) to be similar to a selfadjoint operator, it is sufficient that \[ \int^\infty|t|^{\alpha_+/2}|p(t)-c_+|\,dt<\infty, \quad \int^{-1}_-|t|^{\alpha_-/2}|p(t)-c_-|\,dt< \infty,\;c_\pm>0, \] with some constants \(c_+\) and \(c_-\).
