A partial differential equation of the form \(u_{tt}+ A(y_t)+ B(u)= F(t,x)\), where \(u(t,x)\) is the desired function, \((t,x)\in\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^{n+1}\), and \(A\), \(B\) are second-order operators in the spatial variables, is called a pseudohyperbolic equation. In this paper the solvability of the Cauchy problem for pseudohyperbolic equations is under consideration. For the case in which the right-hand side is a generalized function (distribution) of finite order, a theorem on the unique solvability for a sufficiently general pseudohyperbolic operator is established. The method of proof is based on a specially constructed ``scale'' of a priori inequalities for the direct and adjoint operators.
