Let \(B\) be a unital Banach algebra and let \(a \in B\) be given. In the setting of an axiomatic scheme of ``admissible triples'' for perturbations of \(a\), which was proposed by \textit{A. G. Baskakov} [Russ. Acad. Sci., Izv., Math. 45, No. 1, 1--31 (1995); translation from Izv. Ross. Akad. Nauk, Ser. Mat. 58, No. 4, 3--32 (1994; Zbl 0851.47024)], the author finds sufficient conditions such that there are elements \(b\) and \(x\) for which \(a - b\) and \(a - Jx\) are similar in \(B\), that is, there is an invertible element \(u \in B\) such that \(u(a-b) = (a - Jx)u\). Here \(b, x \in M\), where \(M \subset B\) is a suitable subspace equipped with a complete norm \(\| \cdot \| _M\) and \(J: M \to M\) is a bounded linear operator satisfying certain compatibility properties. The conditions obtained here are carefully analysed in the model case of a disjoint splitting \(\sigma (a) = \sigma _1 \cup \sigma_2\) of the spectrum of \(a\), where \(\sigma _1\) is finite. As an application the author estimates the error between simple eigenvalues of a matrix and approximate ones.
