Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH), \textit{S. Bessassi} [Acta Arith. 106, No. 3, 213--245 (2003; Zbl 1146.11329)] has proved that all normal CM-fields of class number one must have degree less than or equal 96. Also, all normal CM-fields of degree less than 48 and class number one are known, as well as those of degree 48 having a normal CM-subfield of degree 16. The authors prove that if \(N\) is a CM-field of degree \(2n\) with \(48< 2n< 96\) and \(2n\neq 64\) then the class number of \(N\) is greater than one. Also, assuming the GRH if \(N\) is a normal CM-field of degree 48 containing non-normal CM-subfields of degree 16 then the class number of \(N\) is greater than one. It follows (assuming GRH) that any unknown normal CM-fields of class number one must have degree 64 or 96. The proofs break the problem into five different cases depending on the extension degree and use many different techniques.
