The authors propose a simple boundary feedback control moment to stabilize a nonhomogeneous flexible beam with a tip mass. By adopting the Riesz basis approach, they show that the close-loop system is a Riesz spectral system. This enables them to obtain the spectrum-determined growth condition for the exponential stability and optimal decay rate.
