The authors review the model of Sakai and Sugimoto, which describes the near horizon limit of a configuration of \(N\) D4-branes, wrapping a circle in the \(x_4\)-direction with anti-periodic boundary conditions for the fermions and intersected by \(N_1\) D8-branes located at \(x_4=0\) and \(N_1\) anti-D8 brains located at \(x_4=L\). This model is dual to a \(4 +1\) dimensional maximally super-symmetric \(\text{SU}(N)\) Yang-Mills theory, compactified on a circle of radius \(R\) with anti-periodic boundary conditions for the fermions and \(N_1\)-left-handed quarks located at \(x_4=0\) and \(N_1\) right-handed quarks located at \(x_4 =L\). At first, the authors describe the system at zero temperature and then they discuss its behavior at finite temperature, in particular, the deconfinement transition and its implications on chiral symmetry breaking. The chiral symmetry restoration temperature is computed and the spectrum of quark-anti-quark excitations of the theory at finite temperature is discussed.
