This paper gives conditions for the completeness of the Binet-Legendre metric in Finsler geometry. The main result says that if \((M, F)\) be a continuous Finsler manifold and \(g_{\mathrm{BL}}\) its Binet-Legendre metric, then there exists a \(C_1\in\mathbb R\) such that for any \(x\in M\) and any \(y\in T_xM\) we have \(\sqrt{g_{\mathrm{BL}}(y,y)}\leq C_1\cdot F(x,y)\). If the Finsler metric \(F\) is quasi-reversible, then there exist positive constants \(b,c\) such that \(b\cdot F(x,y)\leq\sqrt{g_{\mathrm{BL}}(y,y)}\leq C_3\cdot F(x,y)\), for all \((x,y)\in TM\). In particular \(g_{\mathrm{BL}}\) and \(F\) are bilipschitz equivalent. Further, it is shown that in the case of an arbitrary Finsler manifold, if the Binet-Legendre metric is complete, then the Finsler metric is both forward and backward complete. For quasi-reversible Finsler manifold, it is shown that {\parindent=0.7cm \begin{itemize}\item[(i)] The Binet-Legendre metric is complete if and only if the given Finsler metric is complete. \item[(ii)] The Riemannian volume density of the Binet-Legendre metric is comparable to the Busemann density. \item[(iii)] Two quasi-reversible Finsler manifolds are quasi-isometric if and only if the associated Riemannian manifolds with their respective Binet-Legendre metrics are quasi-isometrics. \end{itemize}} In the last section, the authors have constructed a Binet-Legendre metric for a Zermelo metric. Also, they give an example of a Finsler metric that is both forward and backward complete and whose associated Binet-Legendre metric is incomplete. Further it is shown that the Binet-Legendre metric associated to the Hilbert metric in a bounded convex domain is a complete Riemannian metric. This metric is invariant under the group of projective transformations preserving the domain and it is bilipschitz equivalent to the Hilbert metric. Finally, it is shown that the Binet-Legendre metric associated to the Hilbert metric in a properly convex domain of real projective \(n\)-space is bilipschitz equivalent to the affine metric.
