The author studies the existence and uniqueness of solutions for certain complex Monge-Ampère equations on compact complex manifolds, generalizing earlier results obtained for compact Kähler manifolds. Among the main results proved in this paper are the following: Let \((X,\omega)\) be a compact Hermitian manifold of dimension \(n\), and \(f\geq0\) be a function of class \(L^p(X,\omega^n)\), \(p>1\), such that \(\int_Xf\,\omega^n>0\). If \(\lambda>0\), it is shown that there exists a unique continuous function \(\varphi\) on \(X\) such that \(\varphi\) is \(\omega\)-plurisubharmonic (i.e., \(\omega+dd^c\varphi\geq0\) as a current) and \(\varphi\) solves the complex Monge-Ampère equation \((\omega+dd^c\varphi)^n=e^{\lambda\varphi}f\,\omega^n\). If \(\beta\geq0\) is a smooth closed \((1,1)\)-form on \(X\) with \(\int_X\beta^n>0\), then it is shown that there exists a unique continuous \(\beta\)-plurisubharmonic function \(\varphi\) on \(X\) such that \((\beta+dd^c\varphi)^n=e^\varphi f\,\omega^n\), as measures on \(X\). As applications, the author proves certain special cases of conjectures of \textit{V. Tosatti} and \textit{B. Weinkove} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 140, No. 11, 4003--4010 (2012; Zbl 1273.53063)] and \textit{J.-P. Demailly} and \textit{M. Paun} [Ann. Math. (2) 159, No. 3, 1247--1274 (2004; Zbl 1064.32019)].
