The authors are concerned with existence of solutions for the equation \[ -\Delta u+A_{\varepsilon}(x) F'(u)=0\quad\text{ in }S:={\mathbb R}^n\setminus({\mathbb Z}^n+\overline\Omega) \] subject to boundary condition \(u=P\) on \(\partial S\). Here \(A_\varepsilon(x)=1+\frac{A(x)}{\varepsilon}\), where \(A(x)\) is a 1-periodic, nonnegative \(C^1\) function, \(\Omega\subset (0,1)^n\) is the support of \(A|_{[0,1]^n}\), \(P\) is an integer valued function on \({\mathbb Z}^n+\overline\Omega\). The function \(F\) is assumed to be of class \(C^2\), \(1\)-periodic, such that \(F'>0\) on \((0,1/2)\), \(F'<0\) on \((1/2,1)\) and \(F({\mathbb Z})=0\). The main result of the paper establishes that under the above assumptions there exists \(\varepsilon^*\) depending on the Lipschitz constant of \(P\) such that for all \(0<\varepsilon<\varepsilon^*\) the above problem possesses at least one solution \(U_{\varepsilon, P}\). Moreover, \(U_{\varepsilon, P}\to P\) uniformly on \({\mathbb Z}^n+\overline\Omega\) as \(\varepsilon\to 0\).
