Given a non-empty set \(X\), an abelian group \((Y,+)\) and a function \(F:(0,\infty)\times X\to X\), a map \(H:(0,\infty)\times X\to Y\) is said to be a helix if it satisfies \[ H(s+t,x)=H(t,F(s,x))+H(s,x),\quad s,t\in(0,\infty),\; x\in X. \] A map \(H:(0,\infty)\times X\to Y\) is said to be an approximate helix if it satisfies the above equation to within a given error \(\varepsilon>0\). The main result of this paper (Theorem 3.1) shows that if \(X\) is a closed subinterval of the extended real line, \(F\) is a so-called continuous iteration semigroup and \(Y\) is a Banach space, then any approximate helix can be approximated in a natural sense by an actual helix.
